Christmas Masses at The Basilica

Please read the full protocol before registering to attend Mass in-person. Your cooperation in these extraordinary times embodies our vision to seek the well-being of our community. Archbishop Hebda's dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass continues. 

Following CDC/White House recommendations, consider refraining from Mass in-person if you:

1.) Experienced or have been near someone who experienced: cough, cold, flu, fever of 100°F +, shortness of breath, sore throat, or a loss of taste or smell.
2.) Have underlying medical conditions, including but not limited to: asthma, diabetes, heart conditions, pregnancy, severe obesity, a compromised immune system, diseases of the lungs, kidneys, or liver, or are receiving cancer treatment.

3.) Live in a nursing home, long-term care, or congregant living facility.
4.) Are age 65 or older.

Anyone concerned with interpersonal proximity, even with social distancing, should prayerful consider the prudence of attending Mass in-person.


Protocols required for all attendees

If you feel unable to follow these protocols, please reconsider registration at this time. The protocols will be reviewed regularly.

Upon entrance, guests will
1a.) Sanitize hands, b.) bring and wear a face mask throughout Mass (covering your nose and mouth), and c.) have temperature taken with a no-touch temporal thermometer.

2.) Be asked simple health screening questions to insure you have not experienced or been near someone who has experienced: cough, cold, flu, fever of 100°F or more, shortness of breath, sore throat, or a loss of taste or smell.
3.) Check-in from our pre-registration guest list.

Anyone with a temperature 100°F or more or who answers 'yes' to our health screening questions cannot enter.

Arrival
4.) Doors open 30-45 minutes before Mass.
5.) Public restrooms are limited, so please plan accordingly.
6.) Enter at the ground level Undercroft doors off 17th Street and the circle driveway. A diagram is below.
7.) Staff ushers will direct you to your assigned seat.
8.) Refrain from singing during Mass to prevent spreading particulates.

Reception of Holy Communion
9.) Holy Communion occurs after Mass ends. Take all personal belongings, as you will depart directly after receiving Communion.
10.) Communion is distributed from the center aisle utilizing floor social distance markers.
11.) Wear a face mask while going to Communion.
12.) Staff ushers will guide those seated in side sections to the back of church via the secondary aisles, to approach the altar from the center aisle.
13.) Sanitize your hands before receiving Communion using a nearby automatic dispenser.
14.) Eucharistic Ministers (under the age of 65) will distribute Communion, which must be received in your hand. They will sanitize their hands before distributing Communion and will wear a face mask.
15.) With your face mask on, stand on the floor marker in front of the Communion minister and fully extend your arms.
16.) Step aside with the host still in your hand, and then lower your face mask to consume the host. Please replace your face mask immediately afterward.
17.) Sanitize your hands again after Communion using a nearby automatic dispenser.

Departure
18.) Guests shall depart after Communion or when excused by the usher. You may leave via the east accessible door or the west door near the Mary Garden. Please do not socialize on The Basilica campus.

19.) The holy water font is empty, no literature is available, and please do not light vigil candles.
20.) Refrain from touching surfaces so we can efficiently clean after Mass. 


Please note that check-in is at the ground level Undercroft doors off 17th Street and the circle driveway. All guests enter according to the diagram below. All other doors are locked.
