Members of the Altar Guild care for the vessels, vestments, shrines, and chapels of the Basilica. With guidance from the coordinator of liturgical celebrations, guild members set their own schedule and select the tasks which interest them.
Ascension Snack Pack Leadership Team
Work with a team of leaders alongside Basilica staff to plan, organize, and coordinate Basilica's annual Spring Community Service Event - a snack pack for Ascension School's summer SLAM program. Coordinate with Ascension staff on contents of snack packs, help recruit Basilica volunteers to pack about 1,000 packs, and ensure all packs are delivered safely to Ascension School. Basilica Voices for Justice Network
Raise your voice for justice! Join The Basilica's advocacy network. You will receive one to two e-mail action alerts each month inviting you to contact your legislators about local, state or national issues and informing you about opportunities to learn more about advocacy.
Care Center Ministry
Serve at Care Centers. Visit with residents, bring them Eucharist, or help with liturgical services. Background check required.
Crossroads - Leadership
Provide leadership and plan activities for a group of parishioners and friends, 50 and over, who come together to share activities and to make new friends and deepen existing friendships.
Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness
Work together with 13 downtown interfaith congregations to support the Heading Home Hennepin plan to end homelessness. Gain personal expertise in the issues of homelessness, and plan education and volunteer oppurtunities that inform congregants about issues pertaining to poverty and homelessness.
Emmaus ministers are trained volunteers who provide a listening presence. Embodying the caring presence of God and the faith community, Emmaus ministers are called to listen to the sacred story of another. Anyone who is in a life transition with an illness, loneliness, the death of a loved one, chemical dependency or job loss may benefit from a Emmaus relationship. Employment Ministry Job Coach
Job Coaches work with individuals in career or job transition. They may specialize in an area such as resume writing, interviewing, or look broadly at a person's life or career path. Flexible schedule. Requires a high degree of confidentiality and a background check.
Eucharist for the Homebound
Bring Eucharist to homebound members of the parish. Background and driving record checks are required to be a part of this ministry.
Provide a time and place for friends and family to gather for refreshment following a funeral or memorial for a loved one. Commitment is on an as-needed basis, with 48 hours notice.
Gardening & Grounds
Help beautify and care for our grounds. Activities include lawn mowing, flowerbed planting and maintenance, special garden projects, spring and fall clean-up, and maintenance of lawn equipment. Lawn mowing takes place on Wedneday mornings. Planting, weeding and watering can be done at other times of the week, according to your availability.
Provide graphic design services to the Communications Department on a project basis. Work on your own schedule at your own computer. This is a high-demand job with very few volunteers. If you can help in any way, your support would be aprpeciated. We are particularly in need of assistance in designing promotional piece for web and print.
Help facilitate or organize with the Downtown Coalition of Grief Support, an interdenominational program, on behalf of The Basilica.
Offer support for anyone who has lost a family member or friend to death through. Grief ministers connect with the bereaved by telephone or handwritten notes. This is something you can do from home according to your schedule.
Harvest Pack Leadership Team
Work with a team of leaders alongside Basilica staff to plan, organize, and coordinate Basilica's annual Fall Community Service Event - a harvest pack event to pack roughly 30,000 meals for individuals in need. Help coordinate work and supply needs with Harvest Pack staff and recruit Basilica volunteers to take part in the work. Interested in getting involved? Contact Ashley at 612.317.3417.
The Basilica has three frequently used kitchens. Your help in keeping them clean, organized, and well-stocked will go a long way towards fulfilling our parish mission to "provide quality...hospitality." Set your own volunteer schedule.
Liturgy & Sacred Arts Office Volunteers
Liturgy and Sacred Arts Office Volunteers support the work of the Liturgy and Sacred Arts Team's daily work. Basic tasks would include data entry, filing, light cleaning. For other projects, volunteers would be assigned tasks that would fit their skills and proficiency.
This volunteer should possess strong writing and journalism skills in order to provide written content for Basilica publications. Volunteer writers could provide content to the BASILICA magazine, newsletter, and bulletin, as appropriate. Writers are always needed - must be comfortable conducting interviews with staff and volunteers to contribute to your story assignment. Are you a person who lives the motto "a place for everything and everything in its place?" The Basilica's extensive library of sheet music is in need of organization and ongoing maintenance. New Member Welcome Event
Help us welcome new members to The Basilica by assisting with monthly brunch or dinner events. Help set tables, cook, serve, clean up or greet and visit with guests.
