Volunteer Opportunities - Weeknights

Lead the assembly in song during liturgies approximately once a month. Vocal proficiency and experience is required and cantors rotate throughout all liturgies. Mandatory workshop on Wednesday (6:00pm-700:pm) before your Sunday assignment. Selection by audition and appointment.
The Cathedral Choir sings at 9:30 am Sunday liturgies from September through June along with major feast days (Christmas, Easter, etc), and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm. An audition is required for choir membership.
Choir: Cathedral Chorister
Open to children entering grades 4-8 in the fall (unchanged voice). Sing for a select number of liturgies throughout the liturgical season. Rehearsals on Wednesdays, 5:45-7:00pm in St. Cecilia Room, Rectory. Voice check - not audition - by appointment. Tuition is $55/semester.
Open to Pre-K children. Rehearses 5:30pm-6:00pm in the lower level of the school. Sings for two formal liturgies during the year. Kindermusik based with parent involvement.
Choir: Contemporary Ensemble
A rotating ensemble of singers and instrumentalists ministers at the 11:30am, 4:30pm, or 6:30pm Masses. Musicians are highly motivated, skilled, and capable of preparing music on their own. Placement is by audition only.
Choir: Junior Cantors
Opportunity for youth to learn to the lead the assembly in song. Acceptance by audition. Scheduled for various masses with an adult mentor in the cantor ministry.
Basilica Youth Ensemble for youth grades 8 and up, leads music at the 4:30pm Sunday Mass, September through early June. Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 7:15-8:30pm. Prior choral experience and music reading skills preferred. Placement for instrumentalists and singers by audition or appointment.
MUNDUS sings at 11:30 am Sunday liturgies twice a month from September through June along with select feast days (Christmas, Easter, etc), and rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm. An audition is required for choir membership.
Concert and Event Ushers
Greet event patrons, provide information and assistance as needed. Events usually take place on weekend evenings, some afternoons. Busiest months are October - December and February - April, for a total of about 20 events per year. Volunteer for one or two events....more is great! Time commitment is 4-5 hours per event. Training provided at each event prior to opening doors to attendees. Gifts/skills include hospitality, ability to work with others and follow directions. Disabilities Awareness Ministry
Disabilities Awareness Ministry meets monthly and focuses on awareness, education, outreach, and programming for our parishioners and their families. Members act as liaisons with the Parish leadership to help all become more aware of the needs of those members with disabilities, accessibility or inclusion issues. The committee plans a number of events for Disability Awareness Month in October each year.
Employment Ministry Job Coach
Works with individuals in career or job transition. Choose to specialize in an area such as resume writing, interviewing, or look broadly at a person's life or career path. Flexible schedule. Requires a high degree of confidentiality.
Gifts Leadership Team
Provide leadership for the parish-wide effort to equip members for ministry. The mission is to create and nurture an environment where everyone in our faith community can recgognize, claim, and use their gifts in living our their baptismal call. Work on communications, annual ministry fair, pledge of time and talents. Monthly meetings and completion of tasks and projects outside of meetings.
Mental Health Awareness Ministry
The steering committee meets several times a year and focuses on awareness, education, outreach, and programming for our parishioners and their families.
Pathways Faith-Based Life Skills Ministry
Each Thursday evening about 25 people gather in the Basilica school to enjoy a community meal and learn important life skills in a faith setting. Volunteers manage this amazing program. Time commitment is 6:00-8:30pm one Thursday each month.
The parish office is a busy place! Help it run smoothly by admitting visitors and distributing sandwiches to our hungry neighbors. Get to know staff members and what makes the Basilica tick! SVdP Higher Ground Meal Team
Join the The Basilica's Catholic Charities meal team, cook and serve an evening meal at the men's shelter in downtown Minneapolis one weeknight each month. Contact Julia Buege Freeman at 612-317-3413 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
SVdP Loaves and Fishes Meal
Cook and serve a meal the fourth Friday of every other month to those faced with the challenges of hunger. North Minneapolis and St. Paul locations.
