Acolyte Acolytes (altar servers) have the unique privilege of serving God at the altar. Training is provided and acolytes serve once a month.

Altar Guild Members of the Altar Guild care for the vessels, vestments, shrines, and chapels of the Basilica. With guidance from the coordinator of liturgical celebrations, guild members set their own schedule and select the tasks which interest them.

Archives Volunteers assist the Archivist with ongoing and one-time projects: Cataloging archival materials, rehousing fragile items, researching events and the provenance of items in the collection.
Cantor Lead the assembly in song during liturgies approximately once a month. Vocal proficiency and experience is required and cantors rotate throughout all liturgies. Mandatory workshop on Wednesday (6:00pm-700:pm) before your Sunday assignment. Selection by audition and appointment.
Care Center Ministry Serve at Care Centers. Visit with residents, bring them Eucharist, or help with liturgical services. Background check required.


Children's Ministry - Catechist, Sunday Help to foster faith in our beautiful children. Training and ongoing support provided. Volunteers must complete a background check and take a three hour class, "Protecting God's Children, " at no cost to the volunteer.

Office and administrative assistance on Sunday Mornings. We offer sessions for pre-k through 5th Grade. Our catechists appreciate helpers and it's a great way to grow in your faith and maybe even consider becoming a catechist! Children's Music Ministry Volunteers who help with The Basilica's many Children's Music Ministries in a variety of ways.
Choir: Cathedral The Cathedral Choir sings at 9:30 am Sunday liturgies from September through June along with major feast days (Christmas, Easter, etc), and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm. An audition is required for choir membership.

Choir: Cathedral Chorister Open to children entering grades 4-8 in the fall (unchanged voice). Sing for a select number of liturgies throughout the liturgical season. Rehearsals on Wednesdays, 5:45-7:00pm in St. Cecilia Room, Rectory. Voice check - not audition - by appointment. Tuition is $55/semester.

Choir: Chant Male/Female groups meet prior to Cathedral Choir rehearsal on Wednesday and Sundays to rehearse and sing the Introit chant for 9:30 mass.
Choir: Cherub Open to Pre-K children. Rehearses 5:30pm-6:00pm in the lower level of the school. Sings for two formal liturgies during the year. Kindermusik based with parent involvement.

Choir: Children's Open for children entering grades 1-3 in the fall. Sing for a select number of liturgical events during the course of the liturgical year (September-May). Rehearsals on Wednesday, 6:00pm-7:00pm in the Choir Room of the school building. Tuition is $50/semester.

Choir: Contemporary Ensemble A rotating ensemble of singers and instrumentalists ministers at the 11:30am, 4:30pm, or 6:30pm Masses. Musicians are highly motivated, skilled, and capable of preparing music on their own. Placement is by audition only.

Choir: Handbells Ring handbells for festive masses, i.ee. Christmas/Easter/Pentecost. Rehearses on Wednesday evenings or by special appointment. Music reading is helpful.
Choir: Junior Cantors Opportunity for youth to learn to the lead the assembly in song. Acceptance by audition. Scheduled for various masses with an adult mentor in the cantor ministry.
Choir: Juventus Basilica Youth Ensemble for youth grades 8 and up, leads music at the 4:30pm Sunday Mass, September through early June. Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 7:15-8:30pm. Prior choral experience and music reading skills preferred. Placement for instrumentalists and singers by audition or appointment.

Choir: Mundus MUNDUS sings at 11:30 am Sunday liturgies twice a month from September through June along with select feast days (Christmas, Easter, etc), and rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm. An audition is required for choir membership.

Choir: Schola Cantorum Semi-professional group. Sings vespers and other scheduled liturgies. Music degree preferred and audition required.
Concert and Event Ushers Greet event patrons, provide information and assistance as needed. Events usually take place on weekend evenings, some afternoons. Busiest months are October - December and February - April, for a total of about 20 events per year. Volunteer for one or two events....more is great! Time commitment is 4-5 hours per event. Training provided at each event prior to opening doors to attendees. Gifts/skills include hospitality, ability to work with others and follow directions. Disabilities Awareness Ministry Disabilities Awareness Ministry meets monthly and focuses on awareness, education, outreach, and programming for our parishioners and their families. Members act as liaisons with the Parish leadership to help all become more aware of the needs of those members with disabilities, accessibility or inclusion issues. The committee plans a number of events for Disability Awareness Month in October each year.
Docent Docents provide tours related to the architectural and religious significance of The Basilica of Saint Mary. Tours are regularly scheduled on Sundays after the 9:30am and 11:30am Masses, or by appointment. Training and ongoing support is provided.

TRAINING WORKSHOP OCCURS ONCE A YEAR in the fall. There are nine mandatory training sessions. During the training period, participants are required to shadow seasoned docents either after the 9:30am Mass or 11:30am Mass. At the completion of training, participants will lead the coordinator of the workshop on a tour of The Basilica before they are added to the roster of active docents. If you are interested in becoming a docent, your contact information will be recorded. Prior to the scheduling of a training workshop, a notice will be sent to you.

Emmaus Ministry Emmaus ministers are trained volunteers who provide a listening presence. Embodying the caring presence of God and the faith community, Emmaus ministers are called to listen to the sacred story of another. Anyone who is in a life transition with an illness, loneliness, the death of a loved one, chemical dependency or job loss may benefit from an Emmaus relationship.
