Acolytes (altar servers) have the unique privilege of serving God at the altar. Training is provided and acolytes serve once a month.
Provide welcome and hospitality to all following our weekend liturgies. Greet parishioners and help serve our famous doughnuts in Teresa of Calcutta Hall. Or staff our Information Desk to answer questions and help visitors register to become members of our parish community. Time commitment is about 30 minutes on a regular or occasional basis.
Members of the Altar Guild care for the vessels, vestments, shrines, and chapels of the Basilica. With guidance from the coordinator of liturgical celebrations, guild members set their own schedule and select the tasks which interest them.
Care Center Ministry
Serve at Care Centers. Visit with residents, bring them Eucharist, or help with liturgical services. Background check required.
Concert and Event Ushers
Greet event patrons, provide information and assistance as needed. Events usually take place on weekend evenings, some afternoons. Busiest months are October - December and February - April, for a total of about 20 events per year. Volunteer for one or two events....more is great! Time commitment is 4-5 hours per event. Training provided at each event prior to opening doors to attendees. Gifts/skills include hospitality, ability to work with others and follow directions. Contact Kathy Dhaemers, 612.317.3438 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be part of the Basilica's hospitality team by picking up our famous doughnuts from the south Minneapolis bakery and delivering them to the church. Our volunteer drivers serve just one Saturday a month. A van, SUV or station wagon is ideal for this job but not required.
Gardening & Grounds
Help beautify and care for our grounds. Activities include lawn mowing, flowerbed planting and maintenance, special garden projects, spring and fall clean-up, and maintenance of lawn equipment. Lawn mowing takes place on Wedneday mornings. Planting, weeding and watering can be done at other times of the week, according to your availability.
The Basilica has three frequently used kitchens. Your help in keeping them clean, organized, and well-stocked will go a long way towards fulfilling our parish mission to "provide quality...hospitality." Set your own volunteer schedule.
Minister of Hospitality
Ushers (also known as Ministers of Hospitality) play an important role in strengthening The Basilica's reputation as a welcoming community. Greet members and guests before Mass, take the collection, distribute leaflets and newsletters. Training is provided. Commitment is just one Sunday a month. We especially need ministers to serve at the 4:30 Sunday Mass and Holy Days.
Pathways Faith-Based Life Skills Ministry
Each Thursday evening about 25 people gather in the Basilica school to enjoy a community meal and learn important life skills in a faith setting. Volunteers manage this amazing program. Time commitment is 6:00-8:30pm one Thursday each month.
Here's a way to volunteer at home on your own time. As a participant in The Basilica Prayer Line, you will receive a weekly list of requested intentions to include in your daily prayer.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Do you knit? Want to learn? Gather with other crafters the 1st & 3rd Tuesday, 10:30 am - Noon. Knit, pray, and bless the shawls to be given to members of our community who are ill or suffering in some way. Unable to meet on a weekday morning? You can also knit on your own time and bring the shawls to the parish rectory.
SVdP Families Moving Forward 2017
Host families staying at the Basilica through the local non-profit organization, Families Moving Forward. Volunteers are needed to help setup and take down sleeping rooms, cook and serve meals, play with kids and lead activities, or stay overnight in the church along with families. This event takes place three non-consecutive weeks a year. Contact our Coordinator of Outreach with questions or for more information.
SVdP Refugee Family Sponsor Team
