Members of the Altar Guild care for the vessels, vestments, shrines, and chapels of the Basilica. With guidance from the coordinator of liturgical celebrations, guild members set their own schedule and select the tasks which interest them.
Docents provide tours related to the architectural and religious significance of The Basilica of Saint Mary. Tours are regularly scheduled on Sundays after the 9:30am and 11:30am Masses, or by appointment. Training and ongoing support is provided.
TRAINING WORKSHOP OCCURS ONCE A YEAR in the fall. There are nine mandatory training sessions. During the training period, participants are required to shadow seasoned docents either after the 9:30am Mass or 11:30am Mass. At the completion of training, participants will lead the coordinator of the workshop on a tour of The Basilica before they are added to the roster of active docents. If you are interested in becoming a docent, your contact information will be recorded. Prior to the scheduling of a training workshop, a notice will be sent to you.
Provide a time and place for friends and family to gather for refreshment following a funeral or memorial for a loved one. Commitment is on an as-needed basis, with 48 hours notice.
Gardening & Grounds
Help beautify and care for our grounds. Activities include lawn mowing, flowerbed planting and maintenance, special garden projects, spring and fall clean-up, and maintenance of lawn equipment. Lawn mowing takes place on Wedneday mornings. Planting, weeding and watering can be done at other times of the week, according to your availability.
The Basilica has three frequently used kitchens. Your help in keeping them clean, organized, and well-stocked will go a long way towards fulfilling our parish mission to "provide quality...hospitality." Set your own volunteer schedule.
Liturgy & Sacred Arts Office Volunteers
Liturgy and Sacred Arts Office Volunteers support the work of the Liturgy and Sacred Arts Team's daily work. Basic tasks would include data entry, filing, light cleaning. For other projects, volunteers would be assigned tasks that would fit their skills and proficiency.
Help with hand-addressing invitations, cards, and other types of mail; prepare bulk mailings; help with other office projects in the Development Department. This is an occasional, on-call volunteer opportunity. We will add you to our list of individuals to contact when projects are coming up; you are free to respond "Not available this time."
Help clean and repair our campus buildings. Join one of our teams to help dust, clean church. We are always in need of painters and carpenters to assist with indoor and outdoor maintenance.
