Description
Acolyte
Acolytes (altar servers) have the unique privilege of serving God at the altar. Training is provided. Acolytes serve Mass once a month on a team. Sign up to attend ministry training at www.mary.org/liturgicalministry.
After-Mass Hospitality
Provide welcome and hospitality to all following our weekend liturgies. Greet parishioners and help serve our famous doughnuts in Teresa of Calcutta Hall. Or staff our Information Desk to answer questions and help visitors register to become members of our parish community. Time commitment is about 30 minutes on a regular or occasional basis.
Altar Guild
Members of the Altar Guild care for the vessels, vestments, shrines, and chapels of the Basilica. With guidance from the coordinator of liturgical celebrations, guild members set their own schedule and select the tasks which interest them. Cantor
Lead the assembly in song during liturgies approximately once a month. Vocal proficiency and experience is required and cantors rotate throughout all liturgies. Mandatory workshop on Wednesday (6:00pm-700:pm) before your Sunday assignment. Selection by audition and appointment.
Care Center Ministry
Serve at Care Centers. Visit with residents, bring them Eucharist, or help with liturgical services. Background check required.
Choir: Handbells
Ring handbells for festive masses, i.e. Christmas/Easter/Pentecost. Rehearses on Wednesday evenings or by special appointment. Music reading is helpful.
Concert and Event Ushers
Greet event patrons, provide information and assistance as needed. Events usually take place on weekend evenings, some afternoons. Busiest months are October - December and February - April, for a total of about 20 events per year. Volunteer for one or two events....more is great! Time commitment is 4-5 hours per event. Training provided at each event.
Environment: Advent
Help prepare The Basilica for the Advent season. Volunteers are needed to help with wreath construction, banner assembly, birch tree placement and lighting, and general cleaning tasks. A team of 40 volunteers is needed to help completed all tasks.
In addition, volunteers are sought for the annual Advent Taize liturgy in the Teresa of Calcutta Hall. Tasks include setting up chairs, confession stations, and creating a prayerful worship space. Register to help with one or both at www.mary.org/liturgicalenvironment
Environment: Christmas
Come help decorate The Basilica for the season of Christmas. Greening of The Basilica takes place on two seperate days prior to Chritmas Eve. Volunteers are then needed to assist with De-Greening The Basilica in January. Sign up to help at www.mary.org/liturgicalenvironment
Environment: Easter
Join a team of volunteers to prepare The Basilica for the celebration of Easter. Sign up to help online at www.mary.org/liturgicalenvironment
