2021 Parish Council Election

Please take time to vote. The Parish Council represents you - our parishioners. The Council plays a key role in working with the pastor to ensure that The Basilica of Saint Mary community continues to live out our mission and vision.

We are in need of two parishioners to serve on our Parish Council - one to represent our Learning ministries and the other to represent the Christian Life ministries. By voting, you will help elect two new members to the Council.

We are pleased to announce our candidates, who are well qualified and exhibit the spirit of stewardship, volunteerism, and leadership that make The Basilica of Saint Mary such a special place.

Please take a few minutes to read the biographies included, written in each candidate’s own words chronicling their personal commitment to The Basilica and its vital programs.

Thank you in advance for your participation and your continued support of The Basilica. The deadline for voting is 5:00pm on Monday, June 7.

Parish Member since 2010

After attending The Basilica since 2008, I officially joined the parish in 2010 when I answered a repeated call for volunteer catechists. I worked with early elementary ages for 5 years. When I felt a call to deepen my knowledge, I joined Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) as a sponsor.

After two years as an RCIA sponsor, I was invited to join the leadership team. As a team member, I support adults who are seeking to join the church and those who are sponsoring them. I also help to plan the weekly sessions and retreats as well as facilitating those events. In the last year, I have also joined the Acolyte and Eucharistic Minister teams.

This past year, I joined the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Leadership Team and have helped develop a position statement recently approved by the Parish Council that will lead to conversation and learning within our parish.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Minnesota State University, Mankato and worked in public accounting in Mankato. Since 2008, I’ve been working in Minneapolis in various accounting roles. I have appreciated the opportunity to serve in a leadership role on the Parish Council.

Christian Life

The Basilica Christian Life department embodies the many ways we serve one another and work for justice. Volunteer opportunities include caring, charity, and justice ministries. Together, we work to serve, accompany, and defend one another.

I have been a member of The Basilica family since the mid-1980s. I am twice widowed, have 6 children and their spouses. I am Grandma to 16 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids. At the age of 50, I graduated from St. Kate's in Pastoral Ministry. I am so graced to be part of the ministries of Eucharistic ministers, lectors, and am an acolyte. I have been an advocate in our Shoe Ministry, as well as active in The Basilica's Grief Ministry.

I also serve as a member of The Basilica’s team planning for the Archdiocesan Synod. Outside of The Basilica, I am a weekly volunteer at North Memorial Health. My hobbies include reading, creating greeting cards, and playing golf. I decided to “toss my hat into the ring” for Parish Council to add my talents to The Basilica's vision of being a home of “spiritual nourishment, a beacon of hope, and an advocate for change.” The continued mission of diversity has been such a gift. We welcome one and all no matter where one is on their life’s journey.

I started volunteering in 2013 at the Pathways programs under the St. Vincent de Paul ministries. I have served a variety of roles to maximize my contribution to the team.

I am proud to be a 1st generation American with parents that escaped Vietnam during the war in order to provide a better life for themselves and their 5 kids. I have made it a point to not waste the opportunity afforded to me by my family’s sacrifice and am following my passion to inspire and help others in real estate. Through my real estate career, I have been a property manager helping low-income families find safe and affordable housing.

I currently have a proud career as a Chief Underwriter for a local home buying company that allows me to continue to show my growth and commitment in a leadership role. During my free time, I love traveling with my wife Chi, playing golf, and cheering on the Vikings.

A favorite quote has inspired me during my life: “To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there.” -Kofi Annan
