2022 Parish Council Election

Please take time to vote. The Parish Council represents you—our parishioners. The Council plays a key role in working with the pastor to ensure that The Basilica of Saint Mary community continues to live out our mission and vision.

We are in need of two parishioners to serve on our Parish Council—one to represent our Learning ministries and the other to represent the Liturgy and Sacred Arts ministries. By voting, you will help elect two members to the Council.

We are pleased to announce our candidates, who are well qualified and exhibit the spirit of stewardship, volunteerism, and leadership that make The Basilica of Saint Mary such a special place.

Please take a few minutes to read the biographies included, written in each candidate’s own words and chronicle their personal commitment to The Basilica and its vital programs.

Thank you in advance for your participation and your continued support of The Basilica. Every registered adult parishioner in each household is entitled to vote once.

The deadline for voting is 5:00pm on Monday, June 13.

Parish Member since 2019

After a 10-year career as Faith Formation Coordinator at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community located in Medina, Minnesota, I returned to a career in Network Administration at a law firm in downtown Minneapolis in 2017. This career change led me to seek out a new parish home closer to both work and home. My husband and I did not need to look far and made our decision to officially become members at The Basilica in 2019.

Together with my husband, we’ve enjoyed delving in to sharing our enthusiasm for The Basilica through serving as tour guides during the Basilica Block Party. On my own, I enjoyed leading an elementary faith formation class online in the 2020-2021 school year.

My passion for sharing my love of our Catholic faith with others has only grown since I moved away from serving in Faith Formation as my career. I would enjoy so much having the opportunity to serve The Basilica as a member of the Parish Council in the role of Learning Representative. I feel my past experience as a Faith Formation Coordinator would serve as a good springboard for ideas if I am elected to the Parish Council.

Liturgy & Sacred Arts

Dedicated to the best celebration of our faith through quality liturgy that reflects both the tradition of the Catholic Church and the diversity of our community. We are committed to offering a rich variety of sacred art events and exhibits as a compelling way to communicate our faith and values. Our goal is to provide a variety of opportunities for the development of each individual’s liturgical and devotional life.

The Basilica is a special place I've come to cherish even more since the beginning of COVID over two years ago. It was a strange experience adjusting to the online liturgy, the empty church and the familiar faces of Fr. Bauer, Johan van Parys, and members of the music ministry. The pandemic presented a challenge to all of us: how do we keep serving our parish and thriving as a community through unprecedented times? I was privileged to represent our community during this time and ask for your support to continue doing so for another term.

If re-elected, I would like to help us build on several things we started during the pandemic to support and grow our community. First, we should expand access to programs offered through online streaming to support people who cannot make it to The Basilica for education and small group meetings. Second, we should continue improvements to our website and other online tools such as financial stewardship and volunteer signups. Finally, we identified and contracted with a new IT services provider. This helps The Basilica staff and parishioners have greater security, modernized software, and better WiFi across the campus, all of which takes ongoing support. I ask for your vote to continue working on these efforts on the Parish Council and for your prayers as we discern our path forward.

The Basilica became my spiritual home in 2003, when I moved to Minneapolis from Santa Cruz, California. I was immediately drawn to The Basilica’s beautiful architecture, inspiring staff, and openness to all who entered its doors. I joined the lector ministry in 2004, starting out as a sub before joining and ultimately leading a  team. I love our Basilica’s liturgies and am honored to participate in our worship as a Eucharistic Minister and, with my children, a Minister of Hospitality. I also coordinate lectors for special liturgies, pray for those on our weekly prayer list, participate in family faith formation programs, and try to help out when there are one-off needs I can meet.

During the pandemic, my faith in Jesus and love for The Basilica, its staff, and my fellow parishioners deepened. I am committed to The Basilica and its mission, especially during this time of great transition. I have been married to Michael Cameron for 18 years and we share three wonderful children. I have worked for Hennepin County District Court for eight years. In the past, I have volunteered at the Walker Art Center, Kenwood Elementary School, Restorative Justice Community Action, and the Guthrie Theater; I also chaired the Grace Neighborhood Nursery School Board for two years. I have a law degree from the University of Minnesota, and master's and bachelor's degrees in the performing arts. I enjoy reading, creative writing, being outside, and getting to know Jesus through worship and scripture.
