SVdP Families Moving Forward 2017 Host families staying at the Basilica through the local non-profit organization, Families Moving Forward. Volunteers are needed to help setup and take down sleeping rooms, cook and serve meals, play with kids and lead activities, or stay overnight in the church along with families. This event takes place three non-consecutive weeks a year. Contact our Coordinator of Outreach with questions or for more information.
SVdP Habitat for Humanity - Regular Crew Help build a home for a deserving family one Thursday each month or during the Basilica's summer week-long camp. No construction experience is necessary - we will train. Work at your own comfort level. Food providers are also needed for the summer work-camp week.
SVdP Higher Ground Meal Team Join the The Basilica's Catholic Charities meal team, cook and serve an evening meal at the men's shelter in downtown Minneapolis one weeknight each month.
SVdP Meals-on-Wheels Driver Deliver lunches on selected Tuesdays to home-bound downtown residents. Contact Julia Buege Freeman at 612.317.3413 or jfreeman@mary.org.
SVdP Outreach Ministry Each Tues, Wed, and Thurs morning, St. Vincent de Paul Outreach Ministry takes place in the Teresa of Calcutta Hall. Volunteers are currently needed to serve as Advocates. Duties include listening to guests and providing items such as ID vouchers, thrift store vouchers, gas cards and bus cards
SVdP Pathways Faith-Based Life Skills Ministry Each Thursday evening about 25 people gather in the Basilica school to enjoy a community meal and learn important life skills in a faith setting. Volunteers manage this amazing program. Time commitment is 6:00-8:30pm one Thursday each month.
SVdP Sandwich Ministry The Basilica distributes sandwiches at the Rectory door to those in need, 7 days a week. A team of volunteers makes sandwiches on Wednesday mornings. Contact Julia Buege Freeman for details at 612-317-3417 or JFreeman@mary.org.
SVdP Shoe Ministry Each Monday and Saturday morning, St. Vincent de Paul Shoe Ministry takes place in the Teresa of Calcutta Hall. Volunteer positions include Advocate (fill out shoe vouchers/use database), Listener, Hospitality helper, and Intake Volunteer.
